Southside Counselling and Therapy That Puts You First

If you’ve been putting your own health and well-being last, you’re not alone. Many people living and working in Glasgow’s Southside carry their difficulties quietly for far longer than they need to. At The Talking Rooms, we are here to listen. We offer professional counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to people who are ready to find a more supported way through the challenges they’re facing.

Whether you’re managing anxiety, going through a difficult period in your relationships, or simply feeling like you’ve lost your footing, talking to the right person can be the start of meaningful change. Our counsellors provide a safe, non-judgemental space built on compassion and acceptance, where you can explore your emotions at your own pace.

Mental Health Support in Glasgow’s Southside

Glasgow’s Southside is home to hundreds of thousands of people, spanning neighbourhoods as varied as Shawlands, Pollokshields, Strathbungo, and Govanhill. It is one of the most diverse parts of the city, and like many urban communities, the day-to-day pressures people carry here are real.

Approximately one in four people in Scotland is facing a mental health problem in any given year, yet many find it difficult to seek support for far longer than necessary. The Scottish Government’s target is for 90% of people to access psychological therapy within 18 weeks of referral, and at The Talking Rooms, most clients are seen within five working days.

Real Stories. Real Support.

Tracey made me feel so at ease. She has a very calming voice and after even my first session I was feeling that little bit better. By the last session, I was pretty gutted because I had started to look forward to the hour and picking apart my thoughts and feelings from the past week. This is the sign of a very good counsellor. Thank you ☺️

FAQs About Southside Counselling Services

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s natural to have questions before you reach out.
Here are some of the most common questions people ask before booking their first session.

Southside therapy at The Talking Rooms begins with a free 15-minute telephone consultation. Following that, an initial assessment session is £50. Ongoing session fees and payment plan options are outlined on our pricing page. Many people find that investing in regular therapy sessions is one of the more meaningful things they can do for their well-being in the long term.

The psychology behind CBT means the number of sessions varies. A standard course of CBT runs between 6 and 20 sessions, depending on your goals and how things are progressing. A session with our compassionate counsellors lasts about 50 minutes. Your therapist will review that with you throughout. We do not offer clinical diagnosis or neurodiversity assessments; if you need those, your GP is the right starting point.

Yes. Confidentiality is fundamental to the therapeutic relationship, giving you the freedom to reflect openly and honestly with your counsellor. There are a small number of exceptions to this, for example, if there is a serious risk of harm, which your therapist will explain clearly at the start of your sessions.

If You Are in Crisis

The Talking Rooms is a scheduled therapy service and is not classified as a crisis service. Please note we operate Monday to Friday 9 am-5 pm. If you feel that your life or someone else’s life is in crisis, then please contact the Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24/7). You can also find a full list of leading crisis organisations on our website, or search for counselling Glasgow Southside services through your GP.
