What is CBT?

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a proven talking therapy that could help you understand
the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. We aim to identify and improve thinking styles,
how you feel and what you do, and ultimately improve your mindset and mood.

What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and will it help me?

We identify if there are patterns of what we call ‘unhelpful’ thoughts, feelings or behaviours, and we work with you to make significant changes.

Illustrated below is a normal situation, and how the impact of having unhelpful thoughts can have on how you feel and how you behave.

  • Situation: A neighbor walked past me in the street without saying hello.
  • Thought: I must have done something to upset them.
  • Significant Thought: I am worthless.
  • Feelings: Anxiousangry or lonely
  • Behaviour: Slamming doors in the house, not communicating with anyone, not leaving the house for the rest of the day

CBT can be applied to many behavioural challenges, including specialised programmes like CBT to stop smoking, which help clients break habits through thought-behaviour awareness.

Real Stories. Real Support.

Tracey made me feel so at ease. She has a very calming voice and after even my first session I was feeling that little bit better. By the last session, I was pretty gutted because I had started to look forward to the hour and picking apart my thoughts and feelings from the past week. This is the sign of a very good counsellor. Thank you ☺️

Welcome to The Talking Rooms

When you or your child is struggling, you want more than just another mental health service.
You want reassurance that they will be seen quickly, cared for professionally, and matched with the right support.

We offer:

Fast Access to CBT: We aim to offer CBT services for teens within five days of referral, much quicker than many local mental health facilities, where waiting lists can run into months.

Accredited CBT Therapists: Most therapists in our team are accredited to professional governing bodies such as BABCP, BACP, or COSCA. Our therapists are trained in cognitive behavioural therapy and cognitive behavioural treatment approaches, both of which are globally recognised.

Flexible Therapy Sessions: We provide teenage counselling in Glasgow and East Kilbride, or online for families across Scotland. Evening appointments are available for busy schedules.

Safe and Confidential: Parents can join the start of the first session, but afterwards, the time is private for your teenager. This ensures they feel safe to talk about difficult emotions or situations.

Options for Other Therapies: Sometimes CBT works best when combined with other therapy practices. Art therapy can give teens the chance to express what they cannot yet put into words. By blending psychological therapies when useful, we ensure every child receives support that feels right for them.

Why Choose CBT?

Unlike some therapies that focus solely on the past, CBT is structured, practical and goal-oriented. Most people attend between 6 and 20 sessions, and many notice a real difference within the first few weeks. It is one of the most researched forms of psychological therapy in the world, and recommended by the NHS and NICE as a first-line treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions.
