Counselling Services in a Supportive Environment
East Kilbride is home to The Talking Rooms’ original clinic, where it all began in 2019. Since then, the practice has helped and supported thousands of people across South Lanarkshire and beyond. We help people work through a wide range of mental health difficulties and difficult situations. Whether you live in the town centre, out towards Nerston, or commute daily into Glasgow, access to good counselling should not feel out of reach.
Life has a way of piling things up quietly. During difficult times, which can look like stress at work, a shift in a relationship, or a period of low mood, you keep meaning to address your feelings and behaviours. Many people wait far longer than they need to before reaching out, as the process of finding help and guidance can feel overwhelming. At The Talking Rooms, we try to make that first step as easy as possible.

Mental Health in East Kilbride and South Lanarkshire
Across Scotland, anxiety and depression are among the most common reasons people seek professional support, yet many wait to access it. According to the Scottish Health Survey 2024, 16% of adults in Scotland reported two or more symptoms of anxiety in 2023/24, a figure that has almost doubled since 2008. Depression affects a significant proportion of the population as well, and for many people, the two sit alongside each other. If you recognise either of those experiences, you are not alone.
Anxiety can make everyday situations feel unmanageable, and depression can make it hard to see a way forward. When those feelings go unaddressed, they tend to deepen rather than resolve on their own. Talking to a qualified therapist gives you a structured, confidential space to understand what is driving your feelings, and to build practical tools for managing them. That is not a small thing. For many people, it is the point at which they begin to build real resilience.

Real Stories. Real Support.
Tracey made me feel so at ease. She has a very calming voice and after even my first session I was feeling that little bit better. By the last session, I was pretty gutted because I had started to look forward to the hour and picking apart my thoughts and feelings from the past week. This is the sign of a very good counsellor. Thank you ☺️

Welcome to The Talking Rooms
The Talking Rooms has been offering tailored counselling services to individuals across East Kilbride since 2019. Our accredited therapists work with a range of approaches, so the support you receive fits your circumstances rather than a fixed template. Our counselling sessions are private and confidential, and your therapist will take the time to listen, explore techniques, and discuss what you are hoping to work towards.
Beyond the therapy sessions themselves, the goal is personal growth that extends into everyday life. Building strength and confidence, developing new coping skills, and learning to express what has previously felt difficult to put into words are all part of the healing process.
Our sessions are available in person and online for working adults who need the flexibility.
FAQs About Therapy East Kilbride
Getting started raises plenty of questions. Here are some of the things people commonly ask.
You do not need to arrive knowing what to say or feeling ready to be fully open. Many people come to their first session feeling unsure of where to begin, and that is a perfectly normal place to start. Your therapist will gently help you find your way into the conversation, and there is no pressure to share more than feels right at any given time.
Yes. While anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek CBT therapy in East Kilbride. However, therapy also helps people understand patterns of behaviour linked to grief, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and trauma. Your therapist will tailor the approach to your experience, which may include mindfulness. If you are feeling alone, you can come with a family member to start your healing journey. We find that care and support from loved ones are always key in getting started when you are nervous.
If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, are in a crisis, or think what you are experiencing might have a physical cause, it’s important to speak with your GP. Signs it is worth seeing your GP first include:
- Disrupted sleep or persistent fatigue
- Changes in appetite or weight
- Physical symptoms you cannot explain
For many emotional or psychological difficulties, you do not need a referral or a diagnosis to start therapy. Many people come to us precisely because they do not know what is wrong. They just know something is not right. That is enough of a reason to reach out. If you book a free consultation and it turns out therapy is not the right fit for where you are right now, we will tell you that honestly and point you in the right direction.
If You Are in Crisis
The Talking Rooms is a scheduled therapy service and is not classified as a crisis service. Please note we operate Monday to Friday 9 am-5 pm. If you feel that your life or someone else’s life is in crisis, then please get in touch with the Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24/7). You can also find a full list of leading crisis organisations on our website, or search for counselling Glasgow Southside services through your GP.
