Therapy that fits you, not the other way around
Integrative therapy is a flexible, thoughtful approach to counselling that recognises a simple truth: no two people are the same, and neither are their struggles.
Rather than using a single fixed model of therapy, integrative therapists draw on a range of evidence-based approaches and tailor the work to you – your personality, your experiences, your goals, and what you need in this season of your life.
At The Talking Rooms, integrative therapy allows us to meet you exactly where you are, without forcing you into a rigid framework or one-size-fits-all method.

What does “integrative” actually mean?
Integrative therapy brings together different therapeutic approaches in a coherent, ethical and intentional way.
This may include elements of:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Emotion-Focused Therapy
- Psychodynamic and attachment-based work
- Trauma-informed approaches
- Mindfulness and nervous system regulation
- Compassion-focused therapy
Your therapist doesn’t use these randomly. Instead, they integrate approaches that will be most helpful for you at each stage of therapy.
Some sessions may be practical and structured. Others may be slower, reflective and emotionally focused. The work evolves as you do.
What integrative therapy feels like
Many clients tell us that integrative therapy feels:
- Personal and responsive
- Collaborative rather than prescriptive
- Grounded and human
- Safe enough to explore difficult things
- Practical and emotionally meaningful
You’re not just taught coping tools and sent on your way. You’re also supported to understand yourself more deeply, make sense of patterns, and build a stronger relationship with your thoughts, emotions and needs.

What integrative therapy can help with
Integrative therapy is particularly helpful when challenges are layered or complex, including:
- Anxiety and chronic worry
- Depression and low mood
- Stress and burnout
- Trauma and attachment wounds
- Relationship difficulties
- Low self-esteem and self-criticism
- Emotional regulation difficulties
- Life transitions and identity questions
- Repeating patterns in relationships or work
- Feeling “stuck” without knowing why
It’s also well-suited to people who have tried therapy before and felt it was either too clinical or not structured enough.
How we work with integrative therapy
At The Talking Rooms, integrative therapy is:
- Evidence-based
- Trauma-informed
- Grounded in compassion and safety
- Adapted to your pace and capacity
- Focused on meaningful, lasting change
Your therapist will work with you to understand:
- What brings you to therapy now
- What has helped or hindered you before
- What you want to feel, do or understand differently
- How therapy can best support you
We believe the therapeutic relationship itself is one of the most powerful agents of change. Integrative therapy allows that relationship to be flexible, responsive and genuinely collaborative.

Is integrative therapy right for me?
Integrative therapy may be a good fit if:
- You want therapy tailored to you, not a manual
- You value both insight and practical tools
- You want space to explore emotions as well as patterns
- You’re dealing with more than one issue at once
- You want a therapist who adapts as you grow
If you’re unsure which approach is right for you, that’s okay. Many people don’t come to therapy with a diagnosis or a clear label – just a sense that something isn’t quite right. Integrative therapy gives us room to explore that together.
