Who We Are

The Talking Rooms is a counselling and CBT clinic that supports teenagers and adults in Glasgow, East Kilbride, and online across the UK.

We work with people who often appear to be coping on the outside but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or emotionally stretched beneath the surface. Our approach is grounded, evidence-based, and focused on helping you understand patterns, not label or judge them.

Our Ethos

The Talking Rooms was created for people who want more than reassurance. It is a space for those who are ready to understand themselves more deeply, take responsibility for their emotional wellbeing and make meaningful change.

We believe therapy works best when it is grounded, professional and human. Our approach is evidence-based and trauma-informed, but never cold or clinical. We value emotional intelligence, psychological safety and thoughtful challenge, offering support that is both compassionate and purposeful.

At The Talking Rooms, therapy is not about fixing what is “wrong” with you. It is about understanding the patterns that have shaped you, strengthening your relationship with yourself and developing the skills needed to navigate life with greater clarity, confidence and resilience.

We work with individuals, young people and couples who are often high-functioning in their lives but feel overwhelmed, disconnected or stuck beneath the surface. Many of our clients are professionals, caregivers, or leaders who take responsibility well but struggle to create space for their own needs.

Our therapists are carefully selected not only for their qualifications and experience, but for their ability to offer calm presence, emotional maturity and ethical integrity. They all work within a strong clinical framework, supported by regular supervision and ongoing professional development.

The Talking Rooms is a premium therapy service. We are intentional about the care we provide, the boundaries we hold and the standards we maintain. Therapy with us is an investment in long-term wellbeing, not a short-term solution.

We welcome those who are ready to engage honestly with themselves and commit to the process of change.

How The Talking Rooms Began

The Talking Rooms was established in 2019 with one clinic in East Kilbride, just outside Glasgow. The aim was simple: to make therapy feel more accessible, compassionate and easier to begin.

From the start, people were looking for support that felt approachable and flexible, without long waits or a complicated process. As demand grew, so did the service.

Today, we offer therapy in:

  • East Kilbride
  • Glasgow
  • Online, supporting clients across the UK

Since opening, our therapists have supported over 5,000 people through counselling and CBT therapy. While the service has grown, our focus has stayed the same: providing thoughtful, compassionate support that centres on you.

How Therapy at The Talking Rooms is Different

Many of our clients tell us that the hardest part is knowing where to start. We’ve designed our process to remove as many barriers as possible, so getting support feels lighter and less overwhelming.

When you work with us, you can expect:

  • A free 15-minute phone consultation before you commit
  • Fast access, with appointments available within five days
  • A choice of therapists, matched to your needs and availability
  • CBT theory alongside integrated counselling
  • In-person sessions in Glasgow or East Kilbride, plus online therapy
  • Evening appointments that fit around work, family, school and daily life

You don’t have to explain everything perfectly. We’ll help you find the words.

CBT Therapy and Integrated Counselling Tailored to You

CBT therapy is central to the work at The Talking Rooms. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is widely recommended in UK clinical guidance, including by the National Health Service (NHS) and NICE. CBT works for anger, anxiety, depression, and stress-related difficulties because it is structured, practical, and evidence-based.

CBT is all about how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours interact. You can also go through our self-help guides that support change in everyday situations.

Meet The Team

Nicola Ball

Founder & Clinical Director, The Talking Rooms

CBT Therapist | Counsellor | Coach | Author

Nicola Ball is the Founder and Clinical Director of The Talking Rooms, a leading therapy practice supporting adults, couples and organisations across Scotland and online.

Before training as a therapist, Nicola spent many years working in corporate environments.

She understands first-hand the realities of high-pressure workplace dynamics, performance expectations, organisational politics and the quieter impact of stress, bullying and emotional overload.

Nicola’s decision to retrain as a therapist followed her own experience of burnout and overwhelm. Rather than being defined by that period, it shaped her clinical focus and her belief that sustainable success requires psychological safety, emotional literacy and self-respect, not constant self-sacrifice.

Now a qualified CBT Therapist and Counsellor with over a decade of clinical experience, Nicola specialises in anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, self-worth and the long-term impact of emotionally unsafe environments. Her work is evidence-based, trauma-informed and grounded in the fundamental insight of both personal and professional stress.

Nicola’s therapeutic style is calm, contained and purposeful. She offers a space that is reflective but not passive, supportive but not indulgent. Clients work with her to understand entrenched patterns, develop emotional resilience and make changes that are both meaningful and realistic within the context of their lives.

Nicola founded The Talking Rooms to create a therapy service for people who are ready to invest in themselves and expect a high standard of care. As Clinical Director, she leads and supervises a highly skilled team of therapists, ensuring depth, discretion and clinical integrity across all services.

Alongside her clinical leadership, Nicola works with organisations to support employee mental health and wellbeing, and is an author and media contributor known for translating complicated psychological themes and concepts into clear, accessible insight.

At the heart of Nicola’s work is a belief that therapy is not a sign of failure, but a strategic investment in long-term wellbeing, clarity and emotional strength.
